New SEO Analysis Tab in Web Vitals Extension
We’re excited to announce a update to the Web Vitals Extension Enhanced. In addition to the existing Web Vitals, Server Info, and DNS tabs, we’ve added a comprehensive SEO Analysis tab that provides instant insights into your website’s SEO performance.
What’s New?
The new SEO tab combines multiple analysis tools into a single, easy-to-use interface. Now you can analyze not only performance metrics but also SEO optimization, domain authority, and rating - all from the same extension.
The 3 Metrics Explained
1. SEO Score (0-100)
Measures on-page optimization of the current page by analyzing elements directly on your website.
Factors Evaluated:
- Optimized title (30-60 characters) - 10 points
- Optimized meta description (120-160 characters) - 10 points
- Single H1 tag - 8 points
- Images with alt text - 8 points
- Canonical URL - 4 points
- Viewport (mobile-friendly) - 4 points
- Language defined - 4 points
- Charset specified - 4 points
- Complete Open Graph - 8 points
- Structured data (Schema.org) - 8 points
- Internal links - 4 points
- Not blocked by robots - 4 points
- HTTPS enabled - 6 points
- HSTS configured - 3 points
- Content Security Policy - 3 points
Total: Up to 88 points + bonuses
Interpretation:
- 80-100: Excellent on-page optimization
- 60-79: Good, with room for improvement
- 40-59: Needs optimization
- 0-39: Requires urgent attention
2. Domain Authority (0-100)
Estimates overall domain authority based on technical and quality factors.
Factors Evaluated:
- HTTPS (+15 points) - Basic security
- TLD Quality (up to +20 points):
.gov- 20 points (maximum authority).edu- 18 points (educational).org- 12 points (organization).com- 10 points (commercial standard).net- 8 points- Other TLDs - fewer points
- Domain Length (up to +10 points):
- Domains ≤4 characters - 10 points (premium/aged)
- Domains 5-6 characters - 8 points
- Domains 7-8 characters - 6 points
- Longer domains - fewer points
- WWW Presence (+5 points) - Indicates established site
- Recognized Domain (+10 points) - Google, GitHub, etc.
Base: 40 points + factors = maximum 100
Interpretation:
- 90-100: Maximum authority domain (.gov, .edu, global brands)
- 70-89: High authority, established site
- 50-69: Moderate authority
- 30-49: Low authority or new domain
- 0-29: Very low authority
3. Domain Rating (0-100)
Estimates backlink quality and link profile of the domain.
Similar to Ahrefs DR, but calculated locally.
Factors Evaluated:
- HTTPS (+20 points) - Higher weight than DA
- TLD Quality (up to +25 points):
.gov- 25 points.edu- 22 points.org- 15 points.com- 12 points
- Domain Characteristics (up to +15 points):
- Domains ≤3 characters - 15 points (ultra premium)
- Domains 4-5 characters - 12 points
- Longer domains - fewer points
- Name Quality (+5 points):
- No hyphens or numbers = higher quality
- High Authority Domain (+15 points):
- Google, Amazon, Facebook, GitHub, etc.
Base: 35 points + factors = maximum 100
Difference from Domain Authority:
- DA: Measures overall domain authority
- DR: Focuses more on potential backlink quality
Interpretation:
- 90-100: Maximum link quality profile
- 70-89: Excellent backlink profile
- 50-69: Good link potential
- 30-49: Moderate profile
- 0-29: Weak link profile
Why We Built This
The Web Vitals Extension was already helping developers monitor performance metrics. However, we realized that SEO professionals and developers often need to check multiple aspects of a site:
- Performance (Web Vitals)
- Infrastructure (Server & DNS info)
- SEO optimization (the missing piece)
Rather than switching between multiple tools, everything is now in one place.
Additional Information in the SEO Tab
Beyond the four main scores, the SEO tab displays:
Basic SEO Elements:
- Title tag (with length indicator)
- Meta description (with length indicator)
- Canonical URL
- Robots directives
- Language and charset
Content Analysis:
- H1, H2, H3 tag counts
- Total images and images without alt text
- Internal and external link counts
Structured Data:
- Schema.org presence detection
- Types of schemas detected (Article, Organization, Product, etc.)
Social Media:
- Open Graph tags (Facebook)
- Twitter Card metadata
Security Indicators:
- HTTPS status
- HSTS configuration
- Content Security Policy
- X-Frame-Options
Estimated Metrics:
- Backlink range estimate (based on DA/DR)
- Domain age estimate (based on domain characteristics)
How the SEO Tab Works
Lazy Loading: The SEO analysis only runs when you click on the SEO tab - it doesn’t slow down your browsing or consume resources unnecessarily.
Local Analysis: Most calculations happen locally in your browser:
- SEO Score: Analyzes page elements (meta tags, headings, images)
- Domain Authority: Estimated based on domain characteristics (TLD, length, security)
- Domain Rating: Estimated based on domain quality indicators
Single External API: Only Mozilla Observatory is queried (for security headers), and it receives only the domain name - never your page content or personal data.
Privacy First: No tracking, no data collection, no analytics. Everything is processed locally.
Key Advantages
1. No Paid APIs Required
- 100% free - no subscription needed
- No API keys from Moz, Ahrefs, or SEMrush
- Unlimited usage
2. Smart Estimations
- Based on real and verifiable factors
- Considers multiple dimensions (TLD, length, security)
- Algorithms inspired by professional SEO tools
3. All-in-One Extension
- Web Vitals + Server Info + DNS + SEO in one tool
- No need to switch between multiple extensions
- Consistent interface across all tabs
4. Fast and Efficient
- Instant calculations (no waiting for external APIs)
- Results in 2-3 seconds
- Doesn’t slow down your browsing
Real-World Use Cases
For Quick Audits:
Open any website, click the SEO tab, and instantly see if it has basic SEO optimization, proper security headers, and good page structure.
For Client Reports:
“Your site has a Trust Score of 76/100. This means you have good optimization (SEO: 85), good domain authority (DA: 72), and a solid backlink profile (DR: 68). To improve, focus on getting quality backlinks from .edu or .gov sites.”
You can take screenshots directly from the extension to include in reports.
For Competitive Analysis:
Quickly compare your site against competitors across all four metrics to identify strengths and weaknesses.
For Development:
Catch SEO issues during development before they go live. Missing meta descriptions? Images without alt text? You’ll know immediately.
What This Tab Is NOT
Let’s be transparent about limitations:
Not a Replacement for Professional SEO Tools:
- Doesn’t query real backlink databases
- Doesn’t verify actual domain age via WHOIS
- Doesn’t count real backlinks
- Domain Authority and Rating are estimates, not official Moz DA or Ahrefs DR
When to Use Professional Tools: For deep analysis with real backlink data, consider:
- Moz Pro (~$99/month) - Official DA/PA metrics
- Ahrefs (~$99/month) - Real backlink analysis
- SEMrush (~$119/month) - Comprehensive SEO suite
When This Tab Is Perfect:
- Quick site audits
- Basic SEO checks
- Client presentations
- Development testing
- Competitive snapshots
- Learning SEO fundamentals
Getting Started
The SEO tab is already available in the latest version of Web Vitals Extension Enhanced.
To use it:
- Install or update the extension from the Chrome Web Store
- Navigate to any website
- Click the extension icon
- Select the “SEO” tab
That’s it. No configuration, no API keys, no setup required.
